This article explains what challenges are in the Pattern Health App. We will go over how to earn or lose points and what challenges can be used for in your study or clinic.
What is a Challenge?
A challenge is a competition that uses points to incentivize adherence to your plan. Clinics and studies use challenges to motivate you to participate.
If you are participating in a challenge in the Pattern Health App, you will see a meter in the top right corner of the home screen with a number at the center. You can click on that meter to learn more about your challenge.
In our app, we have two types of challenges: an Earn Points Challenge and a Keep Points Challenge. You can distinguish between the two based on the number of points you start with at the beginning of the challenge.
Earn Points Challenge
You will earn points for every activity you complete in the app. Each activity will have its own point total -- the number of points you will earn when you complete the activity. You can review the number of points each task is worth by clicking on the meter at the top right corner of the screen.
In this challenge, you will start with zero points and your point total will grow as you participate. In some programs, your point total will reset every month. In others, you will keep the same point total for the duration of the program.
Keep Points Challenge
Instead of receiving points for every task you complete, you will lose points for every task that you fail to complete. In this type of challenge, you begin with a point total. Your goal is to keep your total as close to the initial number as possible. If you click on the meter at the top right-hand corner of the screen, you can see how many points you will lose for different types of tasks should you fail to complete them.
