This article reviews the basics of Garmin's integration with our console. Here, you can review what data is collected from Garmin devices, how to review biometric data from Garmin in the console, how to backfill Garmin data, and how to connect a Garmin device on a participant's behalf.
1. What Data is Collected From Garmin?
The following chart outlines the data that we can collect from Garmin devices today.
We access this biometric data using Garmin's API. This means that we only get access to biometric data after a participant syncs their device. Automatic syncs can be configured in the Garmin app. The default schedule for this sync is about every 4 hours.
We can collect information about a participant's step count, heart rate, workouts, and sleep.
2. Where can I review biometric data from Garmin in the console?
To review a participant's biometric data, go to the participant's profile and click on the Measurements tab. There you will see daily/weekly/monthly summaries of their biometrics (i.e. sleep, steps, etc.)
For more information on managing a participant's measurements, please review this article.
You can also review a participant's biometric data by downloading a Biometrics Report. For instructions on how to complete this export, please review this article.
3. How can I backfill Garmin data?
A backfill might be necessary if there is a discrepancy between the data you see in a Garmin export and the data in a participant's Measurements tab or biometrics export.
First, go to a participant's profile and click on the Devices tab. You will see a section titled "Garmin" towards the bottom of the page.
Choose which biometric type you would like to load (i.e. sleep, steps, or all historical data) and the date range that you would like to load from.
Then, press the blue Load button. The backfill will take several minutes.
