After a participant logs into the Pattern Health mobile app for the first time, they will complete three steps to set up their app: Commit to Your Pattern, Select Your Pet/Meter, and Set Your Routine. This article goes over each step in detail.
Step 1: Commit to Your Pattern
The Commit to Pattern screen invites you to review the tasks you will complete while using this app. Afterward, you can accept our terms and write your signature. Your signature will not be distributed or otherwise used by our system.
Why do we have this screen?
Pattern Health celebrates the intersection of behavioral science and digital health. That's our sweet spot. While behavioral science tells us about an individual within their environment, digital health offers us a mechanism to reach them where they are. We want to create patterns of sustainable behavior that help everyone live healthier lives.
That process begins here. When a participant reviews their plan, they get a bird's eye view of the behaviors we are asking them to adopt. When the participant commits to the plan, they are making a commitment to themselves to follow through.
Step 2: Choose Your Pet (optional)
After committing to your plan, you might see a screen that asks you to choose a virtual pet. If you do not see this screen, you may continue to the next step (Set Your Routine).
The virtual pet will accompany you as you use the Pattern Health app. These pets will try to hold you accountable by reacting to your adherence to the plan and sharing motivational messages. Each pet has its own personality:
Friendly Dog, Snarky Cat, Supportive Dolphin, and Shy Turtle.
Once you choose a virtual pet, you will have the opportunity to give it a name. After doing so, click Next to keep setting up your app.
Step 3: Set Your Routine
Depending on your plan settings, the last step of the setup process may be to Set a Routine. There are plans that do not require the user to set a Routine, so if you do not see this screen that is okay. On this screen, you will be asked to enter what times you typically wake up, eat lunch, eat dinner, and go to bed. If enabled for your plan, you can go back and change your routine later via More -> My Routine.
We ask about your routine because we want to personalize your experience in the app. For example, if you are a morning person, we don't want to send reminders late at night. Or, if you work a night shift, we don't want to remind you to complete tasks every morning. If you are not asked / able to set a Routine, your program is designed to run without the need for these times.
Once you complete these steps, you will have successfully set up your app! To learn more about how to navigate the mobile application, click here.
