A load increase from biometrics data processing caused event handling to slow considerably. The result was a delay in the application of rules that govern user task workflow, in particular automated tagging and task unlocking on plans. Event handling that normally takes a few seconds slowed to cause delays of several minutes. However, the Pattern API and client applications remained online during this disruption, and no data was lost. After investigating the service degradation, the Pattern engineering team as made changes to workload distribution that will prevent this problem in the future.
